Carolina Fandiño

Visual artist graduated from Universidad de los Andes (2015), with an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts, 2018) and an MFA in Painting from Bard College, New York (2019). Her career has been recognized through various awards and grants, including first prize in the Fondo de Cultura Económica Poetry Competition in Mexico (2022), the Felix González-Torres Fellowship for artistic research, and the Artistic Creation Project Development Grant for Young Visual Artists awarded by Colombia’s Ministry of Culture (2021). She has participated in group exhibitions at venues such as the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, Galería Santafé, Galería Neebex, and Proyecto Binario.

Her artistic practice approaches vulnerability through feminist and gender studies perspectives, questioning imaginaries associated with security, sovereignty, and invulnerability. Through research- and creation-based projects, she explores issues related to sexual and gender-based violence in Latin America. Alongside her artistic work, she maintains an extensive academic practice as an educator and cultural manager. She currently teaches in the Visual Arts Program at Universidad El Bosque, where she leads continuing education initiatives and external engagement programs.
