Wifredo Lam: When I Don’t Sleep, I Dream

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York | November 10, 2025 – April 11, 2026

The Museum of Modern Art presents the most comprehensive exhibition in the United States devoted to Wifredo Lam (1902–1982). Bringing together more than 130 works. including paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, and archival materials, the show traces six decades of an artistic practice that redefined modern art.

Lam, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, fused elements of European Surrealism with Afro-Cuban and Caribbean traditions, creating a visual language that challenged Western ideas of identity, spirituality, and modernity. His work stands as a bridge between worlds and cultures, revealing a profoundly hybrid vision of the modern era.

The exhibition highlights Lam’s ongoing dialogue with colonial history, African diasporic heritage, and Caribbean imagination, offering a fresh and contemporary look at his enduring legacy.
